How Hello Saturday Got Its Name

When choosing a name for my business, I knew I wanted something memorable. More importantly, I wanted a name that reflected the feeling I hoped to create in people’s homes.

Using my own name never quite felt right. Mary-Ellen was easily forgotten, and neither my married name, Hinton, nor my maiden name, Morris, carried the meaning I was looking for.

But the word Saturday immediately stood out.

Why Saturday?

My love for Saturdays began during a formative time in my life. I was pregnant with my first baby and living in our first home. Saturdays quickly became my favourite day of the week.

I would wake up early, often before anyone else, excited to make the most of the day. Sunlight would fill the house and I’d spend the morning rearranging rooms, preparing the nursery, and paying attention to the small details that slowly shaped our house into a home.

There was something special about those days. They felt slower, more intentional. It was time spent creating a home that felt warm, welcoming and ready for the life we were about to begin as a family.

The feeling of home

Those Saturdays came to represent something much bigger than a day of the week. They captured a feeling — joy, freedom and connection.

They were about creating a home that felt comfortable, thoughtful and lived in. A place where everyday life could unfold naturally.

That feeling has stayed with me ever since.

From Saturdays to Hello Saturday

When it came time to start my interior design business, the name Hello Saturday felt like the natural choice.

It captured everything I wanted the brand to represent — new beginnings, the comfort of home, and the feeling that comes from creating spaces that truly work for the people who live in them.

Today, Hello Saturday is a boutique interior design studio based in Auckland, specialising in residential interior design for new builds and major renovations.

But the idea behind the name remains the same.

Every project is about helping our clients create homes that feel thoughtful, personal and well considered — homes that support everyday life and feel good to live in.

In many ways, every project begins with the same intention that shaped those early Saturdays in my first home: creating a home that feels just right.
